Phillips engaged to Albany woman

ALBANY _ Singer Phillip Phillips, who gained national stardom after winning season 11 of American Idol in 2012, is engaged.

Phillips posted on Facebook that he is engaged to Hannah Blackwell of Albany. The posting included a photograph of Phillips and Blackwell with her showing off the diamond engagement ring.

The caption for the photograph said “My best Christmas surprise is happening. We’re engaged y’all@hannahblackwell.”

Hollywoodreporter.com said the two met when both were volunteering at a shelter for women and children in Albany. Blackwell, who often tours with Phillips, was featured on the video for Phillips’ megahit “Home.”

David Blackwell, father of the bride, posted his approval on Faceboook calling them “genuine” and stating their love is “real and romantic.”

Phillips has been touring almost constantly since his American Idol victory. He was in Albany this past August to perform at a fund raiser for Mission Change. His sister, LaDonna Urick, is executive director for Mission Change, which works with homeless and needy residents in the area.
