ALBANY — The Mini Mart at 2422 Stuart Ave. in Albany was robbed at gunpoint, police officials say. Witnesses told police that an unknown male entered the store shortly before 9 p.m. Friday brandishing a handgun and demanding money. Police spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said the bandit escaped with an unknown amount of cash.
In an unrelated incident on Saturday, officers of the APD responded to the Regency Inn at 911 E. Oglethorpe Blvd., where desk clerk Williamson Mesamours said he’d been assaulted by a man with a handgun.
According to Mesamours, shortly after 6 a.m. three males and two females entered the hotel asking for a room. When the clerk refused to provide a service because the group was loud and causing a disturbance, one of the males took a small wooden block from the hotel desk and struck Mesamours in the face, Mesamours stated.
Banks said that after he was struck, Mesamours went outside to get a vehicle tag number to give police. The suspect, Banks said, took a handgun from a black backpack and pointed it at Mesamours. As the clerk ran back toward the lobby, gunman fired at least one shot in his direction, Mesamours stated to police. The suspect then left in a blue Nissan auto.
PEDESTRIAN STRUCK: Kasey Travis, 22, was walking west across Radium Springs Road around 2:40 a.m. Sunday, police officials say, when she was struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Timesia Bellamy, age 19.
Following the incident, Travis was transported by Dougherty County EMS to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, and on Monday she was listed in fair condition, officials said.
Banks said on Monday that Travis had been crossing the roadway illegally and without caution, and that Bellamy would not be charged in the incident.
