Police seek identity of man killed in early morning shooting Wednesday

ALBANY – Officials were working on Thursday to identify a man who was fatally shot early Wednesday morning.

The man, who appeared to be in his 20s, had multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m., Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said. The shooting occurred at the Shackleford Shopping Center at 216 E. Oglethorpe Blvd.

“They’re trying to identify him and see who he is,” Fowler said. ”They took fingerprints.”

Albany police responded to the location at 2:45 a.m., where they found that a second man also had been shot. The second victim was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, where he was in stable condition on Wednesday morning.

When police arrived, they observed a car leaving the area whose driver failed to stop. After a pursuit, officers were able to stop the car and take three individuals into custody for questioning.

So far, the investigation has revealed that the man who died had been inside another car in which there had been a struggle over the car and a firearm, police said. The victim was shot inside the car and later fell outside into the parking lot.
