PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Westwood girls score big win over Westfield

CAMILLA — Westwood girls basketball coach Jenni Smith isn’t going to gloat over a big victory.

But Friday night was about as close as she came to getting excited when her Lady Wildcats topped Westfield 52-43 in a nonregion game.

“My kids played real hard and we made some mistakes,” Smith said. “They’re still learning, but because they played so hard, they were able to overcome some of their mistakes. We know what we have to work on. But I thought it was a big win for us.”

Callie Smith scored 28 to lead Westwood, while Morgan Singleton added 14.

The Lady Wildcats improved to 8-0 and are off until Dec. 29 when they play in a tournament at Glenwood (Ala.) School.

PELHAM GIRLS 77, SEMINOLE COUNTY 23: Pelham blew away Seminole County in a nonregion game to stay undefeated on the season. Herald Super 6er Briunna Freeman finished with 18 points to lead the way, while Mahogany Brown added 12 and Timbreanna Hudson 10 for the Lady Hornets (7-0).

BAINBRIDGE GIRLS 80, CAIRO 50: Bainbridge used 25 points from Patra Parris to down Cairo. The Lady Bearcats improved to 6-2 on the season with the victory.

Asia Gordon added 14 points, while Alex Carter finished with 12 for Bainbridge.

SEMINOLE COUNTY BOYS 76, PELHAM 55: Seminole County remained in first place in the early Region 1-AA standings with a big victory at Pelham. The Indians were led by Herald Super 6er Jordan Harris’ 32 points. Anfernee King added 12.

Clarence Almond led the Hornets with 15 points.

BAINBRIDGE BOYS 54, CAIRO 49: Cairo fought off a sluggish first half and outscored Bainbridge 40-25 in the final two quarters. But it wasn’t enough as the Bearcats improved to 7-1.

Myles Thomas led the Bearcats with 16 points, while Malik Middleton and Devonte Jones scored 13 and 12 points respectively.

AMERICUS-SUMTER BOYS 65, WORTH COUNTY 64: Americus-Sumter improved to 7-2 on the season with a thrilling victory over Worth County in Americus. Juwan High led the Panthers with 19 points, while DJ Harris added 15. Adam King finished with nine.

Brandon Moore led Worth County with 28 points, while Herald Super 6er Anfernee McLemore finished with 16.

CALHOUN COUNTY BOYS 60, DOOLY COUNTY 55: Calhoun County remained undefeated on the season with a nonregion victory over Dooly County. The Cougars were led by Herald Super 6er Quenten Taylor, who finished with 27 points. Sherrod Williams added 12 points.
