PREP HOOPS ROUNDUP: Pelham girls rout Lowndes, improve to 12-1 on season

VALDOSTA — Pelham took a break from Region 1-AA play Tuesday night and hammered Class AAAAAA Lowndes 72-47. It was the Lady Hornets’ second victory over the Vikettes this season.

Herald Super 6er Briunna Freeman led Pelham with 25 points, while Mahogany Randall finished with 12 points. Center Timbreanna Hudson chipped in 10 points.

The Lady Hornets (12-1) return to action Friday night when they play host to county rival Mitchell County at 6 p.m.

“We’ve still got a lot of work to do,” Pelham girls coach Antonia Tookes said. “We have definitely not arrived yet. We must play defense and rebound better.”

RANDOLPH-CLAY GIRLS 65, BAKER COUNTY 24: Herald Super 6er Kobi Thornton pumped in 25 points to lead the Lady Red Devils (8-5 overall, 7-2 Region 1-A) to a victory over Baker County. Shaayliah Lewis added nine points.

Jamika Jackson led Baker County with eight points.

WESTWOOD GIRLS 60, SOUTHLAND 30: Morgan Singleton helped Westwood stay undefeated on the season, scoring 17 points to help the Lady Wildcats double-up on Southland.

Callie Smith added 12 points, while Karlie Jones and Hayley Marshall each finished with 10 points.

RANDOLPH-CLAY BOYS 109, BAKER COUNTY 20: Three Randolph-Clay players finished in double-figure scoring as the Red Devils topped the century mark in the victory over Baker County.

Keyshawn Baker led the Red Devils (10-3, 7-1 Region 1-AAAA) with 25 points, while Herald Super 6er Gary McRae and Alton Powell scored 19 points apiece in the win.

Jaleel Freeman led Baker County with 11 points.

LEE COUNTY BOYS 60, VALDOSTA 41: Lee County evened its Region 1-AAAAAA record with a road victory over Valdosta. The Trojans used 16 points and 13 rebounds from Jaylen Wimberly in the victory.

Chris Gardner added 10 points, while Curtis Williams added nine points and 10 rebounds.

PELHAM BOYS 50, LOWNDES 48: Pelham is getting pretty good at pulling out close games. After a late tip-in to beat Fitzgerald last week, the Hornets topped Lowndes in a nonregion game.

Clarence Almond led the way with 15 points for Pelham.

BAINBRIDGE BOYS 97, THOMASVILLE 93: Bainbridge fell just shy on the century mark in a big nonregion home victory over Thomasville. The Bearcats had five players finish in double figures. Herald Super 6er Tyree Crump led the way with 31 points, Devonte Jones added 17, Trevon Shaw and Malik Middleton finished with 12 points each, while Malik Lurry added 11.

SEMINOLE COUNTY BOYS 66, MILLER COUNTY 51: In a Border Battle, Seminole County outlasted Miller County in a game that was closer than the score indicated. Herald Super 6er Jordan Harris finished with 27 points to lead all scorers, while Jahmyka Pearson finished with 18 and Anfernee King added 11 for the Indians (11-2).

Miller County was led by Jimmy Cooper’s 23 points.
