ALBANY — Former Albany Technical College part-time basketball coach Ravii Givens is headed to trial on marijuana distribution charges, according to officials with the Dougherty Judicial Circuit of Superior Court.

Givens and representatives of the Dougherty County District Attorney’s office failed to reach a plea deal in Dougherty Superior Court before judge Willie Lockette on Monday, who then called for a bench trial for a date yet to be determined.

Two years ago Givens was charged with marijuana distribution after Albany Police Department officers responded to a burglar alarm and discovered suspected pot in his apartment. In addition to Givens, the Albany-Dougherty Drug also took Patrick Lewis and Anthony Seay into custody.

All three were charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. At the time of the arrest, ADDU officials said they discovered more than four pounds of marijuana scatted throughout the residence.

Givens, a 1998 Westover High School graduate, was an all-state player with the Patriots and played college basketball at Stetson University.
