ALBANY — The Exchange Club of Albany presented its Book of Golden Deeds plaque Friday night at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds to Rick and Jane Runge, members of Byne Memorial Church who head up the World Hunger Emphasis program and are co-directors of the International Ministry at Byne.

The Runges helped establish and provide leadership for the Vietnamese Church at Byne and organized the English as a Second Language program which helps non-English speaking members of the community attain citizenship and become more productive members of the community.

The Runges have “helped numerous foreign nationals by tutoring, baby sitting, being a friend when needed, helping with medical expenses and providing a Christian witness to all they come in contact with,” according to a release from the Exchange Club of Albany.

The Book of Golden Deeds is an exclusive Exchange Club program that began in 1919 to recognize men and women whose sacrifice for public good is motivated by an innate desire to assist others. The award honors those individuals whose good deeds might otherwise go unnoticed.

Committee Chairman Chuck Knight and Exchange Club President Carl Gluckert presented the award to the Runges while also honoring past recipients at the annual banquet.

The Exchange Club of Albany, chartered in 1936, began their Book of Golden Deeds Awards Program in 1948 when Dr. W. S. Cook became the first recipient. To see all past winners go to: exchangeclubofalbanyga.org.
