DAMASCUS — An extended cornhole tournament will kick off the second day of the sixth Briar Patch Festival on May 30, but, as always, it’s the music that is the main draw of the annual festival.

Seventeen artists, among them some of the regional favorites who are Briar Patch regulars, will perform at the festival that kicks off next Friday at 5:30 p.m. with a performance by Josh Roberts & the Hinges. Other Friday performers include The Trainwrecks, Ben Sutton with The Ends, the Red Hoss Suckas — a side project featuring Briar Patch co-founder Jeb Tabb and other festival crew members — Rollin’ in the Hay and Funk You.

In addition to the extended cornhole tourney, which was a favorite at last year’s festival and is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. on May 30 and last until 1:30 p.m., a second new event of Briar Patch ‘15 is a Writers in the Round session featuring acoustic performances by Sean Clark, Dallas Dorsey, Bubba Hall and Rod Holt.

Blackberry Possum, which features Tony Brook and Wildman Steve, kicks off the second day of performances on Saturday, May 30. They will be followed by the Evergreen Family Band, Fire Dawgs, Dirk Quinn, Evan Barber & the Dead Gamblers, Adam Hood and traditional event closers the Bo Henry Band.

Tickets for the entire weekend are $40, and a limited number of camper hook-ups are available for $100. The Briar Patch Festival site is located a few miles east of Highway 45 North on Five Bridges Road near Damascus.
