ALBANY — Another Sherwood Christian Academy soccer standout is heading to the collegiate ranks. Senior midfielder/forward Katelyn Cuff signed a letter-of-intent Wednesday morning to continue her education and play soccer for Brewton Parker College, an NAIA school located in Mount Vernon.
Cuff had offers from schools such as Hiawassee College, Point University and Columbus State but chose Brewton-Parker mainly because of the head coach of the Lady Barons, Matt Payne.
“I really got along with him well and trusted him from the start,” Cuff said. “I really loved the girls on the team when I visited. I also loved that it was a small school, which I felt like I needed.”
Cuff will leave Sherwood having scored more than 70 goals, several of them coming in critical situations. She also played a key role in helping the Lady Eagles win the GISA Class AA state title last year.
“Katelyn has been such an integral part of our program over the last three years,” Sherwood coach Jeremy Davidson said. “She’s been a player that we can count on to not just score easy goals, but to score that big goal that you need in big games. She has been what I call a ‘clutch player’ that produces in critical times when you need her most.”
According to Cuff, her time at Sherwood has helped her become the player and person she is, and will serve her well in college.
“Sherwood has helped me grow into a better young lady by giving me the tools that I will need to succeed in college,” she said. “It has prepared me athletically, but also spiritually to make a difference in our world.”
Cuff believes her role on the Lady Barons’ squad will be playing forward.
