Sherwood to conduct key conference

ALBANY — Sherwood Baptist Church will conduct a free parenting/leadership event beginning at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the church, and all parents of pre-schoolers through teens and community leaders are invited to attend.
The presentation will be led by Jay Strack, the founder of Student Leadership University, and will focus on some of the toughest issues facing children and teens today. The frontline parenting event will be held in the church Fellowship Hall.
According to the SLU web site, the group’s mission is to “equip, motivate, enable and empower students for present and future leadership in their schools, churches, teams, families and workplaces. We believe our training gives them a 20-year quantum leap on a global level that accelerates their leadership decisions.
“Modeled after Fortune 500 corporate leadership seminars, each student is exposed to comprehensive programs focusing on leadership skills. These skills include time and life management, goal setting, dealing with conflict and difficult people, and developing a Christian worldview.”
Administrators and community leaders are invited to attend a 5:30 high intensity breakout session in the choir room. Event organizers said the purpose of Monday’s sessions is to help parents and leaders recognize the pressures facing the children of today.
Childcare will be provided if needed for children pre-k through fifth grade at $2 per child.
