ALBANY, Ga. — Albany firefighters have evacuated the Albany Towers building, which houses U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop’s office and the Internal Revenue Service’s local office, after a complaint of a smoky odor.

Building occupants were asked to leave the building while firefighters conducted a floor-by-floor search. The odor was no longer evident and firefighters expected to clear the building for re-entry soon.

UPDATE:

Albany Fire Chief James Carswell says that a search of the building revealed a burnt fan motor in the building’s heating and air system.
