SPORTS BRIEFS: Darton baseball beats West Georgia Tech

The Darton State College baseball team used a three-run homer from Luis Salas in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat West Georgia Tech 11-6 Friday afternoon at Darton.
Salas broke a 6-all tie with his homer, then John Cable followed a batter later with a two-run shot of his own.
Taylor Ferringer picked up the victory in relief, working one and two-thirds inning.
Salas finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs, two doubles and a homer. Cable finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs, a double and a homer.
Kyle Hansen left the game with a lead but got a no-decision after working six innings and striking out five.
Darton will host West Georgia Tech again today in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
Darton softball sweeps Thomas
The Darton State College Lady Cavs (10-21, 2-4 GCAA) put up 26 runs in two games as they swept Thomas University in softball action Friday evening in Thomasville.
The first game ended early in five innings after the Lady Cavs used 14 hits to achieve the 13-0 victory. Freshman Brianna Billie went 3 for 3 in the win. Freshmen Deja Lester, Alana Walker, and Danielle Turner and sophomore Tiffany Bishop all contributed two hits. Bishop picked up her sixth win of the season, improving to 6-9.
The Lady Cavs kept swinging and used 15 hits in the second game to come away with the 13-9 victory, giving sophomore Kendall Holland her third win of the season, improving to 3-9. Billie led the team offensively, going 4 for 4, followed by freshman Harley Beck who was 3 for 4.
The Lady Cavs return to action Wednesday for long-awaited home games when they face conference opponent East Georgia at 3 and 5 p.m.
Worth County’s Jackson, Goodwin combine on no-hitter
Two pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter for the Worth County Rams in a 13-0 victory in five innings over Americus-Sumter Friday night in Americus.
Austin Jackson and Hunter Goodwin rounded out their sterling stat line with five strikeouts and three walks.
Americus-Sumter couldn’t get anything going as long as Jackson was on the hill. He held Americus-Sumter hitless over four innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.
The Rams’ bats came to life in the second inning. Americus-Sumter had no answer as Worth County scored seven runs. The Rams scored in the second on an RBI single by Jonathan Cirullo, a walk by Shelby Cox, a two-run single by Denzell Gowdy, a two-run single by Reece Bozeman and a groundout by Tyler Moore.
Gowdy racked up three RBIs on four hits.
The Rams added four more runs in the top of the fifth. The inning got off to a hot start when Gowdy tripled, bringing home Cox. That was followed up by Jake Jones’s single, plating Gowdy.
