McIlroy not scheduled for practice round
Rory McIlroy is not scheduled to play Whistling Straits Golf Course this week, according to his marketing agency.
McIlroy, out since early July with a torn ankle ligament, could be out of action until September.
A report Monday said McIlroy was scheduled to play Whistling Straits, site of next week’s PGA Championship, this weekend.
McIlroy just missed a three-man playoff in 2010 at Whistling Straits.
The Communications Clinic, which oversees McIlroy’s media dealings, said he was “not booked for such a round. Still going through the ankle rehab process.”
However, McIlroy has not officially pulled out of the fourth and final major this season.
Eagles, Bradford in extension talks
Sam Bradford and the Philadelphia Eagles are discussing a short-term contract extension.
ESPN reported the Eagles want to sign Bradford to a new deal as he enters his first season with the team. Bradford was acquired with a draft pick from the St. Louis Rams for Nick Foles, a 2015 fourth-round pick and a 2016 second-round draft pick.
Bradford, 27, is making a positive impression in his return to the field from a second ACL injury. He will earn $12.95 million in 2015.
The Eagles gave Bradford the majority of the first-team reps in the opening week of training camp ahead of Mark Sanchez, Matt Barkley and Tim Tebow.
Bradford was the No. 1 overall pick in 2010 and had some success with the Rams, where the talent level around him was not great. Injuries have been part of his bio since he starred at Oklahoma but missed most of his post-Heisman Trophy senior season with the Sooners recovering from a shoulder injury.
The Rams have also had initial talks with Foles on a new deal.
Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said Bradford’s accuracy was the major motive behind the deal and downplayed his second serious knee injury last season. Kelly pointed out that both Drew Brees (shoulder) and Peyton Manning (neck) changed teams due to injury only to perform at MVP levels for multiple seasons.
