American flag catches fire during Atlanta Braves’ opening day ceremony

Fireworks honoring the legendary Atlanta Braves slugger Hank Aaron on Tuesday night brought sparks way too close to the American Flag at Turner Field.

Due to the flame retardant material of the flag, it didn’t fully catch fire, but it did leave several holes in it throughout the game.

One fan, Julie Paulk, snapped photos of the incident — and the images are now getting some national attention.

Beth Marshall, a spokeswoman with the Atlanta Braves, told media outlets that “We replaced the flag immediately following the game and we will no longer use pyrotechnics from that location.”
