Sumter County deputy arrested on drug charges

AMERICUS — Officials with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Americus announced Monday that a deputy with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department officer has been arrested on drug-related charges.

On Monday, William David Graham, 51, was arrested and charged with one count of possession of cocaine, one count of possession of marijuana, one count of possession of drug-related objects and one count of violation of oath by public officer, a news release from the GBI said.

Graham was reportedly arrested in Americus without incident.

On April 11, the GBI office in Americus was requested by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department to conduct the investigation after controlled substances were discovered in Graham’s bedroom at his residence. The controlled substances were discovered during a search of the residence in an unrelated investigation which was being conducted by the sheriff’s department.

Graham has been employed as a deputy with Sumter County since 2005. Court proceedings are pending in this case and therefore no further information was made available on the case Monday.
