ALBANY — The Albany Fire Department Dive Team assisted in the removal of a pickup truck from a watery fate Saturday, fire officials say.

Battalion Chief Matthew Jefferson with the AFD said a “passer-by” on the Phelema Road bridge was concerned when he saw the partially submerged Super Duty Ford pickup in the water off Cleve Cox Landing and called the around 1:28 p.m.

Jefferson said the driver of the truck had placed the vehicle in neutral during his attempt to launch his boat, and after stepping from the truck watched it roll backward into the water. Officials say the driver then called Quality Wrecker Service to pulled the truck from the water.

“I guess (the driver) needed a little brake work for his truck,” Jefferson said. “I’m afraid he needs more than that now.”

No one was injured in the incident, according to Jefferson.
