Sylvester man sought in Worth County bus wreck

SYLVESTER — Police are asking for the public’s help in looking for a man who is believed to have been behind the wheel of a car that hit a Worth County school bus Wednesday in Sylvester.

No one was injured in the wreck, police said.

Lt. Ron Graddy with the Sylvester Police Department said investigators are trying to find Jonathan Tellis, who police believe ran from the scene of the wreck that occurred at 3:54 p.m. on West Street.

Tellis is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and driving while his license was suspended, police said.

Graddy said in an email Friday that the bus, carrying 10 students, had just dropped off several students and was attempting to travel eastward on West Street when a 1988 Chevrolet Caprice traveling west struck the bus. Graddy said the driver of the car lost control before the collision.

Graddy said Tellis was driving the Caprice and drove it away from the wreck location. It was later recovered from behind a mobile home on Curtis Street.

Anyone with information on Tellis’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Sylvester Police Department, Graddy said.
