Right-hander Julio Teheran will start on opening day for the Atlanta Braves on March 31 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Braves planned for righty Kris Medlen to start the opener, but he is out for the season after having Tommy John surgery earlier this week.

After Teheran, the trio of Alex Wood, Freddy Garcia and David Hale are expected to fill out the initial four-man rotation until recently acquired Ervin Santana is ready to debut, perhaps on April 9. Mike Minor may come off the disabled list in mid-April.

Teheran, 23, went 14-8 with a 3.20 ERA and had 170 strikeouts and 45 walks in 185 2/3 innings last season. He signed a six-year, $34.2 million extension in February.
