DAWSON — Terrell Academy’s high-scoring Marilauren Farr signed a letter-of-intent Friday to take her scoring ability to LaGrange College.
She chose LaGrange over Berry and College of Coastal Georgia. For Farr, it was the LaGrange coaching staff that impressed her.
“The coaches had a huge impact,” Farr said. “I love them. They’re awesome, and the campus itself, it’s close. It just seems like a close fit.”
LaGrange coach Lee Buchanan is very excited about the type of player that he is getting, in particular, Farr’s versatility.
“Marilauren has the ability to play a lot of different positions … for us, that’s really important,” Buchanan said. “Her size is important because we don’t get as many tall players at our level.”
Farr leaves Terrell Academy with the school’s second-highest scoring total of 1,807 points, bested only by Courtney Spilman’s 2,021. Farr averaged 16 points and nine rebounds per game this season and led the Lady Eagles (25-6) to the GISA Region 3-AAA Tournament championship game and a berth in the GISA AAA state tournament.
“She is a special kid,” Terrell girls coach Keith Jones said. “She has done wonderful things at Terrell Academy. She’s a very special kid and an exceptionally hard worker. I couldn’t be more proud of her. I’m excited and happy for her, and I think that she’s going to have a great career at LaGrange.”
Farr couldn’t be happier about her time at Terrell Academy. She credits Jones for helping her grow both as a player and a person.
“It’s been absolutely amazing,” Farr said. “Coach Jones is awesome. He always pushes you to do your best and he pushes you to achieve more every practice and continue to grow. I think that’s the main thing that’s going to help me at LaGrange.”
