CAMILLA — Terrell County quarterback Detravion Bishop scored an 11-yard touchdown run on fourth-and-goal with 1:25 left in the game to kill the comeback hopes of the Baconton Blazers Thursday night at Centennial Stadium to give his team a 34-20 victory.

Bishop and the Greenwave led the entire game, building a 22-12 halftime lead, but the Blazers had big comeback hopes after senior fullback Matthew Deen scored the Blazers’ third touchdown earlier in the fourth quarter and put the game within reach.

Terrell County dominated the first quarter both on offense and defense. Bishop started things off with a long run down the right sideline to get the Greenwave going at the 23. On the next play, he connected with Shaundarious Kimbrough for a 23-yard touchdown pass. After the 2-point conversion, the Greenwave led 8-0.

The Blazers could get no offense going on their first two possessions. After punter Hunter Cain kicked from deep in his end zone, Terrell County was in business again with the ball at the Baconton 41. Bishop pitched the ball to Austin Johnson who took the ball down to the one yard line and then scored on the next play. After the 2-point conversion the Greenwave was up 16-0 and looking like they were in total control.

But the Blazer offense came to life on the next possession. Churning out first downs on runs by Deen, the Blazers slowly drove down the field. Then quarterback Zeke Deen hit Luke Hall with a seven-yard pass, and then Hall took the next carry 14 yards down to the 24. After Matthew Deen carried it down to the two, Hunter Bowles scored the first Blazer touchdown to bring the score to 16-6.

It didn’t stay that way long. On the kickoff, the Greenwave’s Austin Johnson picked up the bouncing ball and took it 80 yards for a touchdown to give Terrell a 22-6 halftime lead.

The Blazers pulled the score back to 22-12 in the third quarter with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Zeke Deen to Jonathan Beck. Baconton drove 64 yards down the field for the score. They had gotten as close as the eight yard line where Zeke Deen ran in for a score, but the Blazers were flagged for holding and the touchdown was called back.

But again, the Greenwave answered with a touchdown of their own. Bishop raced 27 yards to the 26-yard line and on the next play, handed the ball to Kimbrough who took it in for the score.
