THOMASVILLE — Leading, 47-44, with four minutes to go, Terrell County boys basketball coach John Davis thought his team was on its way to upsetting Goose Creek, S.C., which won its classification’s state championship last year.

Instead, he watched his team lose for just the third time this season, 57-54.

Terrell County (6-3) trailed by 12 at halftime, but fought back to take the lead late in the game, only to give it up in the final minutes.

“They were good — and while the loss to Bainbridge (a night earlier) felt OK because we took a bigger school to overtime — this one hurt a little more,” Davis said. “Some of my key players really let me down (Wednesday night).”

Terel Hall led all scorers with 19 points, followed by 14 from Brian Browner and 8 from Markez Dotson, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Goose Creek scorer Devontae Wright’s game-high 20.
