DAWSON – If pick pocketing wasn’t so illegal, Terel Hall could probably make a pretty good living off his cat-like quickness.

The Terrell County junior point guard had eight steals Friday to go along with six assists and 20 points, leading the Greenwave to a 67-45 win over Miller County in Region 1A-A play.

“Picking pockets, it’s just something I like to do,” Hall joked after the win improved Terrell County to 4-1 overall, 2-0 in region play. “Just learned it over the years.”

Hall’s steals led to several fast-break layups that helped the Greenwave outscore Miller 23-12 in the third quarter, turning a 28-22 lead at halftime into a route.

Terrell head coach John Davis first noticed Hall’s ball-handling agility in middle school, which has turned the Herald Super 6 player into the next scoring threat in a long line of Greenwave shooters.

“You can’t teach aggression,” Davis said of Hall. “He’s always had that and that’s what makes him a complete ball player. He’s point guard savvy.”

The Pirates (3-2, 2-1 Region 1A-A) hung with the Greenwave in the first half, despite an off night from standout Will Martin, who finished with 11 points. Cosby Salter led Miller with 15 points, but the Pirates had no answer inside for Terrell senior center Alre’k Brown.

Brown scored nine points, but cleaned up the paint with 12 rebounds and four blocks.

“He’s going to face double teams every night,” Davis said of Brown’s offensive progression. “Once he adjusts to the double team, I think he’ll go a little higher as far as his offense.”

Terrell’s Brian Browner knocked down three 3-pointers and scored 14, while Markez Dotson added 10.

After dropping previously unbeaten Pelham, 85-74, Tuesday, Miller County struggled to find its shot and saw Terrell go on a 16-2 run to open the third quarter. Pirates’ coach Tim Martin was visibly perturbed with his team.

“The energy and emotion we had from Pelham, I don’t know (where it went),” Martin said.

“But I say being 16, 17 years old, you ain’t no old man. You should be able to come play night after night.”

Terrell County is the only remaining team in Region 1A-A with a flawless region record after handing the Pirates their first loss Friday.

“We wanted to go ahead and get ahead of the pack,” Hall said.

Terrell visits Randolph-Clay tonight in region action, while Miller plays host to Early County in a non-region game.
