1. ‘Pink Moon’ turns ‘blood moon’ red in full lunar eclipse (Photo gallery added)
The more or less “official” nickname for tonight’s full moon is the Pink Moon, but in the wee hours of Tuesday morning it will take a decidedly reddish-orange hue when a full lunar eclipse turns it into a “blood moon.”
2. City Commission clears path for West Albany Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market
ALBANY — Albany city commissioners laid the infrastructure groundwork Tuesday morning for development of a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market grocery store and complementary fueling station at Logan Court and South Westover Boulevard, just off Gillionville Road near the recently built West Albany Waffle House.
3. Woman, 69, killed in three-car wreck on Ledo Road
ALBANY — A 69-year-old motorist was killed Thursday in a three-vehicle collision on Ledo Road at the Lee County Walmart. Georgia State Patrol Senior Trooper Walter Spurlin said Pamela Faye Johnson, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
4. Businesses join forces to maximize assets
ALBANY — After sitting vacant for the better part of the last decade, the former Harley Davidson dealership on Dawson Road next to Austin’s Fire Grill, is occupied by a new bohemian family of businesses, hoping to work in tandem to offer a new shopping and creative experience to the citizens of South Georgia.
5. Gov. Nathan Deal signs SB 349 into law at the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport (Video)
ALBANY — Gov. Nathan Deal flew into Albany Wednesday afternoon to sign into law Senate Bill 349, which revised the functions of the state Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD).
6. Butch Mosely lays out three-year plan for Dougherty County Schools
ALBANY — In January of 2013, when Butch Mosely rolled into town as Dougherty County’s interim superintendent of schools, he expected to stick around for 18 months until the school board hired a permanent chief for the 24-school, 15,000-plus student district.

8. Albany’s Lockette being investigated by Miami police
MIAMI — Albany native and former Monroe star Ricardo Lockette is one of three NFL players being investigated by Miami police for an incident that happened earlier this month.
9. FTC asks for extension in Palmyra acquisition decision
ALBANY — The Federal Trade Commission on Monday asked federal Judge Louis Sands for a 60-day extension for filing documents necessary for dismissing an order for preliminary injunction against the Hospital Authority of Albany-Dougherty County and Phoebe Putney Health System in regard to the authority’s acquisition of the former Palmyra Medical Center.
10. Second Albany ‘Scared Straight’ segment to air on A&E
ALBANY — Some of the staff at the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office are “going Hollywood” on A&E Network’s Beyond Scared Straight tonight, said Lt. Terron Hayes with Sheriff’s Office. This is the second time in less than six months the local lawmen have been featured.
