ALBANY — Theatre Albany will have two special performances of Tennessee Williams’ “The Lady of Larkspur Lotion” this weekend to help raise funds for the theater to take its award-winning production on March 6 to the Southeastern Theatre Conference Community Festival in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The theater group will perform the play at 8 p.m. Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Theatre Albany, 514 Pine Ave. Tickets for the performance are $10 each, lending to the “Ten for Tennessee” fundraiser theme.

Williams, one of America’s greatest playwrights, set “The Lady of Larkspur Lotion” in 1930s New Orleans. The sketch involves a fading beauty and down-on-his-luck writer who create fantasies as a way of coping with their dismal circumstances, according to Theatre Albany Director Mark Costello. The pair’s desperation is further complicated by their landlady trying to collect their overdue rent.

The cast consists of Jennifer Kirk Bowers, Joy Johnson and Eddie McCarty, who won awards for their portrayals at last year’s Georgia Theatre Conference Community Festival.

Those who want tickets or who want to contribute to the trip may call (229) 439-7193. Checks can be made to Theatre Albany and mailed to Ten for Tennessee, c/o Theatre Albany, P.O. Box 552, Albany, Ga., 31702-0552.
