At the recent celebration renaming the portion of U.S. Highway 19 that runs the length of Lee County to Veterans Memorial Highway, Lee County Commissioner Greg Frich had this to say: “It’s a gateway of remembrance. Every time we drive along it, we’re going to be reminded of the sacrifices so many men and women have made for our country. Specifically, we have service men and women who live here in our community and, maybe even more to the point, we have men who have given their lives in support of this nation.”

“It’s been a long-time coming. I’m happy to be a part of the rich tradition of basketball at Monroe. I’m ready to get started.” – Jennifer Acree (a former Dougherty High standout) upon learning that she had been chosen to head Monroe’s girls’ basketball.

“Financially we are coming off the cleanest audit we’ve had in years. We saved more than $900,000 in our Child Nutrition Program. We’re investing more than $90 million in facilities improvements. We also saved nearly $1 million in transportation costs by eliminating the transportation hub and becoming more efficient in the department.” – Superintendent Butch Mosely on the state of the Dougherty County School System

Downtown Manager Aaron Blair is advocating for construction of a city sports park in the former First Tee location behind the Albany Civic Center. “There are from 30 to 60 acres of land available, and I’ve worked with planners to try and show a way that we could locate the park downtown,” Blair said. “We need for that to happen; it would be a huge part of downtown redevelopment.”
