ALBANY — A man reported that his cell phone, charger and wallet were taken in an armed robbery Thursday night, according to a report from the Albany Police Department.

Officers responding to a suspicious person call around 9 p.m. at Dollar General, 408 S. Slappey Blvd., contacted a 20-year-old man who said he had been robbed at gunpoint about 10 minutes earlier.

The man said he was walking to a friend’s house on West Society Avenue when he stopped at E-Z Title Pawn, 500 S. Slappey Blvd., to charge his phone. He told police he was seated against the north side of the building and was talking to his girlfriend when a man approached and asked to use his phone.

He ended his call and handed the phone to the man, who he told police pulled a black “Glock style” handgun and pointed it at him, instructing him to lie down and not not move. The report said the gunman reached into the man’s rear pocket and took his wallet, then grabbed the phone charger before riding away toward the south on a BMX-style bicycle.

The stolen cell phone was an iPhone 4 and the stolen wallet contained the man’s identification, his Social Security card and $295 in cash, the report said.

The report said the victim described the suspect as a dark-skinned black male who was wearing a white T-shirt, shorts and a red ball cap. A lookout was posted, the report said.

The case remains under investigation.
