‘Tis the season

ALBANY — Christ’s Cupboard Food Pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church is gearing up to provide families in need with a free bird and all the fixings for a Thanksgiving meal this November holiday season.

To meet this goal Christ’s Cupboard is requesting donations of items to supplement the turkeys that will be distributed.

“Our goal for November is to provide the ingredients to make a traditional Thanksgiving meal for everybody who comes to the food pantry,” said Amy Bearman, co-chair of Trinity’s Social Concerns Committee.

Since the food pantry was established on May 20 of this year the food pantry has served 454 people, including 124 families, Bearman said. During the month of October 150 individuals were served.

The pantry distributes non-perishable food to the community out of the 1508 Whispering Pines Road church location from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. each third Saturday of the month.

Donations for the Thanksgiving meal food drive will be accepted from 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday and from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Suggested donations for the Thanksgiving meal include whole chickens, canned vegetables, instant mashed potatoes, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce, cream of mushroom soup, canned fried onions and yams.

“We are also accepting monetary donations to supplement whatever we don’t get in the food drive,” Bearman said. “We never know how many people are going to show up.”

A church member has donated turkeys for the meal, she said. Small households will receive chickens and turkeys will be distributed to larger households.
