Trail hike planned near Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Nature enthusiasts are encouraged to embrace the undisturbed outdoors in all its natural beauty on Saturday with a hike along the Orchard Pond Road Trail in Leon County Florida near Tallahassee. The event is hosted by the Apalachee Chapter of the Florida Trail Association.

The unpaved Orchard Pond Road trail was part of Leon County’s effort to protect and preserve natural habitats and wildlife areas that contain examples of biologically diverse species. The hike, which spans an approximately 7 mile walk, will start at 9:15 a.m. and run until 1:00 p.m. EST.

The Apalachee Chapter of the Florida Trail Association brings hikers together to explore and enjoy Florida’s natural beauty. This chapter is one of 18 that provide volunteers to build and maintain the Florida National Scenic Trail and has been present and active since 1982.

The trailhead has accommodations for horse trailers and passenger vehicles as well as picnic tables if participants wish to bring a snack or lunch. Pets (on leash) and children accompanied by a responsible adult are welcome. Participants should be prepared for insects, the weather and should bring their own water.
