TIFTON – Fortson and Austin Turner, co-owners of Turner’s Furniture, were joined by a number of Tift County officials last week as they broke ground for the expansion of the company’s distribution center on Oakridge Church Road in Tifton.

The expansion will include 44,000 square feet of warehouse space and 3,000 square feet of office space and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2016.

“When we built the distribution center 12 years ago, we built it with the idea that we would be able to add on to it,” Fortson Turner said. “Since then, our business has grown and we’ve maxed out the space that we’re in. This will give us the room we need to accommodate all of our stores.”

When the Distribution Center began operation in 2003, there were six furniture stores in South Georgia. Today, there are 10 stores with locations in Tifton, Albany, Valdosta, Moultrie, Thomasville and Tallahassee.

Turner added that the expansion will bring more jobs to the area and the company is also currently hiring delivery drivers. Interested applicants can apply at the distribution center.

Turner’s Furniture is celebrating 100 years of operation this year. In recognition of the anniversary, the company has been running a promotion that involves giving away free furniture each month. The winners of the promotion also have money donated to a local charity of their choice.
