ALBANY — Two separate shootings, resulting in one hospitalization, on Sunday continue to be investigated by the Albany Police Department.

One of the shootings was at 604 Bonny View Ave. at 10:51 a.m. on Sunday, during which the victim was struck twice, police officials said.

Phyllis Banks, spokeswoman for the APD, said Alonzo Toomer, 24, was struck in the left rib cage and upper left thigh after three suspects — one driver and two shooters — occupying a blue older model Chevrolet Tahoe stopped in the vehicle in the street and shot him.

The victim said the first shooter exited the vehicle from the passenger side and started firing at him, before the other shooter came out of the rear driver’s side door and began firing, Banks said.

The first gunman was described as a dark-skinned black man with dreadlocks, and the second gunman was described as a light-skinned black man. The driver remained in the vehicle. The victim stated that the vehicle fled the scene after the shooting, Banks said.

While pursuing a possible suspect, a traffic stop with a vehicle of a similar description resulted in the arrest of Richard Jermaine Barber, 30, on the 600 block of Bonny View Avenue about 30 minutes after the shooting on possession of marijuana charges. He was not charged in connection to the shooting.

A spokeswoman for Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital said Toomer was released from the hospital Sunday.

Nobody was injured in a separate shooting incident on Willard Avenue just after 8 a.m. on Sunday.

The addresses affected were 515 Willard Ave., 513 Willard Ave. and 511 Willard Ave., with a total of eight occupants and three vehicles from the residences affected, Banks said.

Officers responded to the location in reference to the victims reporting finding bullet holes in their vehicles and their houses. Shell casings were found in front of all the incident locations in the roadway. There were no injuries reported in connection to the incident, Banks said.

The case remains active pending further investigative results, Banks said.
