Two injured in north Albany accident

ALBANY — Two people were injured Friday in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Westover Boulevard and Meredyth Drive.
According to the Georgia State Patrol in Albany, around 3:15 p.m. David Williams was traveling north on Westover Boulevard in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler through the intersection with Meredyth Drive, when Charles Fields in a 1998 Ford Explorer attempted a left turn from the opposite side of the intersection.
The two vehicles collided on their right passenger sides, officials say, causing the Explorer to overturn multiple times. The Explorer collided with a 2002 Mercedes Benz driven by Christina Brown, who was stopped on the north side of the intersection, preparing to turn left onto Meredyth Drive.
Trooper Robert Corbin with the GSP said that Fields was trapped inside the Explorer, dangling upside-down from his seat restraints, and required extrication by the Albany Fire Department.
According to Corbin, Fields was transported by Dougherty EMS to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening back injuries and lacerations to his upper extremities. Brown was also treated for non life-threatening injuries, officials say, while Williams and his passenger, 8-year-old Leighton Mathis, were uninjured.
Corbin said Fields was charged with failure to yield while turning left.
