ALBANY — At least two people were attacked or robbed at gunpoint in Albany on Wednesday, police officials say.
Cornelius Evans told officers of the Albany Police Department he had left the Sports Zone club on South Slappey Boulevard and was in the vicinity of the Holley Homes housing development around 3 a.m. when he was robbed by a masked black man with a handgun.
According to Evans, the suspect, whose face was covered and who wore all black clothing, took cash, jewelry and the victim’s cellphone.
In an unrelated case, Kevin Thomas told police that shortly before 4 p.m. he was chased on foot and attacked by several men on the 500 block of Blaylock Street. According to the victim, one of the men, who Thomas said he believed to be a gang member, struck him on the head with a handgun while two other men kicked and punched him.
Police officials say that although Dougherty County EMS was called to the scene, Thomas refused treatment for what EMS officials called minor injuries.
Police spokeswoman Phyllis Banks said both cases remain under active investigation.
