Unemployment rates for August are released

Albany, GA – According to numbers released today, September 23, the number of unemployed workers in Southwest Georgia increased from 17,233 to 17,596 from July to August.

Georgia’s unemployment rate is 10.3 % while 105 of the counties in the state (66%) top the 10% mark.

Dougherty County’s rate of unemployment is 12 %. Other area county rates are as follows: Worth – 11.6%, Terrell – 11.7%, Mitchell – 10.8%, Baker – 9.8%, Calhoun – 10.4%, Sumter – 13.2%,

Only nine of Georgia’s 159 counties have an unemployment rate of less than 8%. Lee County is one of those with a rate of 7.9%.
