UNREVIEWED: Liberty Expressway crash injures two

DOUGHERTY COUNTY — A pickup heading south on the Liberty Expressway went through the median, through northbound lanes, hit a ditch, smashed through a garden wall and flipped several times before stopping at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday, police reported.
When the black, 2002 Dodge Ram pickup flipped, it dumped about 10 full five-gallon gas cans out of its bed. The red plastic cans were scattered about the demolished pickup’s crash site in front of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
“It could have been much worse; smell that gas. It was sprayed all over the driver and the area,” said a Dougherty County EMS responder at the crash site. “There was no fire, and he didn’t hit any other vehicles.”
Emergency personnel took the driver, 32-year-old Charles Sealy Jr., and his passenger, 31-year-old Kimberly Garner, to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Dougherty County Police Department Lt. Anthony Rogers said.
No information on their status was immediately available from the hospital. The EMS responder said the couple was in serious condition when they left the crash on the 800 block of the Liberty Expressway.
Albany Fire Department firefighters secured the gas cans, Rogers said. There was no indication that Sealy was drunk or under the influence. Rogers added that Sealy would be charged with failure to maintain lane.
