ALBANY – The driver of an off-road vehicle who collided with a car and was ejected on Friday afternoon later died at Phoebe Putney Hospital, Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said.
It was the fifth traffic fatality in Albany in three weeks, with three of the other fatalities involving motorcycle crashes.
“We have had five deaths that could have been prevented in three weeks,” Fowler said.
Alton Clifton Hamilton Jr., 30, was pronounced dead at 5:24 a.m. Saturday, the coroner said. The accident occurred in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Faith Avenue.
“He hit a car,” Fowler said. “When he hit the car he went over the car (was ejected). He was not wearing a helmet.”
The fatality was the second death for the weekend in Albany. Keyvon Hardy, 23, was shot after he and two other men were involved in a dispute at the 2824 Old Dawson Road Shell convenience store.
Hardy later died at Phoebe.
Kameron Jackson, also 23, was also shot. Albany police said that Jackson was in stable condition on Friday night.
