WALT SPECHT: Americans’ values have changed for the worse
WALT SPECHT
There was a time when a father worked at whatever was available in order to feed his family. He worked hard and tried to make sure his family not only survived, but prospered. Things weren’t always smooth, but the family worked its way through problems.
Students knew they were in school to learn and if they acted up in school, the home justice system reminded them they were to behave. Children weren’t having children and if they did there were consequences for both father and mother.
Now, folks seem to look at work as an inconvenience — a place you go to get money when you want to, not necessarily when your employer wants you to. Sick days need to be taken because they are yours, not a benefit. Overtime is for suckers who cannot figure their way out of it. You owe nothing to your employer, they owe everything to you. If you are really smart, you live with grandma in public housing, eat on her and your EBT card. Brag about the ride you can afford and your babies’ mommy, until you get tired of her. Then the American taxpayer does more to raise your children than you do, and you might even make some of those payments on that ride by scamming the system.
It’s time for accountability, consequences and responsibility — things that seem to have left our values.
