Judge Ralph Powell has served as Worth County State Court judge for the last 22 months, assuming the duty in June 2014. When Judge Powell assumed the duty, there was a long backlog of cases that had accumulated since the passing of Judge Miller. There was work to be done and Judge Powell had to hit the ground running. Here, his experience paid off.

He immediately reorganized the methods of operation of the court and began the long, tedious job of getting things back in order. I had the privilege of working with Judge Powell in the beginning and I saw firsthand what he could do. Working sometimes 12 to 14 hours a day, even holding court until 9 or 10 o’clock at night, Judge Powell began making a dent in the large workload immediately. It has paid off.

Judge Powell has practiced law for more than 25 years. During that time, he has served as a prosecuting attorney, an instructor of law to students at the University of Georgia, and a trial attorney representing the public, both individuals and businesses.

Although very professional, Judge Powell takes the time to listen to people and to provide the courtesy due to both defendants and the attorneys serving the court’s cases. I don’t believe any attorney, either prosecution or defense, will give any comment that doesn’t compliment Judge Powell. He is a man of integrity and he is one of the best. After due consideration, I believe it will be in the best interest of Worth County to keep him on the State Court bench.
