EDWARD SCHWEIKERT: People search engines are jokes
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Search engines can write anything they want
By Edward Schweikert
The “people search engines” are jokes. Instructed to employ a minimum of three search engines, I did and retrieved three different records.
I searched for a name from my past. Our families were friends and we attended high school together. I wanted to send condolences for the passing of a family member. How hard is that?
None (mirror image) matched the name. They had different postal addresses and none had a working email address. The only things they agreed upon were report fees, basic disclaimer and most wanting credit card data.
I decided not to use any of the three, fearing my email and telephone would be filled with spam and disclosing my personal data.
Now, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 6-2 on May 16 those search engines can write anything they want about anyone. One site can say one person is God reincarnated as a human, while another says he/she is reincarnated as the devil and never be punished.
