WALT SPECHT: Candidates are running on the taxpayers’ dime
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Politicians should have to resign when seeking another office
By Walt Specht
Just how many politicians are out there campaigning for another job while being paid to do their current job? Anybody think a sitting Senator can do their current job while campaigning for another job?
I know it is supposedly based on the fact that sitting politicians can campaign for their current re-election while sitting in that position collecting pay. However, doesn’t it make more sense to force their resignation from the current position prior to their campaigning for another position on the taxpayer’s dollar?
Also, it assures representation for the Politician’s current constituents. I can’t seriously think of anyone doing their job and campaigning for another job serving their constituents as intended.
Let us move to keep these leeches from feeding off the taxpayers to further their own goals. Involve some risk in running for office, not providing a golden parachute for them to fall back on should their attempt fail.
