WALT SPECHT: Safety tips on road and at home
LETTER TO THE EDITOR: things can be done to maintain safety
By Walt Specht
A few weeks ago, there was an article about parking facing out instead of in. I don’t believe it is legal on the street, but it is in private parking lots. Provides for a far safer exit from the space. Also, most robberies and attacks occur when leaving a parking spot. This way you do not have to stop and reverse when pulling out.
Keep a pair of the amplified shooting muffs at your bed. If you hear something go bump in the night, you will hear as good as a young dog and protect your hearing if you are forced to shoot inside the house.
If your smoke alarm doesn’t go off every now and again in the kitchen, it probably isn’t sensitive enough or correctly positioned. None of us are perfect cooks or toast-makers.
Your dog’s job is to alert you to a problem. Your job is to have something at hand to help them deal with it.
Remember, the best response you can hope for from 911 involves more than enough time for you to get severely hurt. Call for help whenever you even think you need it. If you wait it might be too late.
