Hiking society seeks interns
Do you have a passion for outdoor recreation and want to make a positive impact on our nation’s trails? American Hiking Society is seeking (2) organized, self-starters to assist with their stewardship programs, development, advocacy, and outreach efforts this fall/winter. The ideal candidate is a college student or recent graduate who is seeking an internship that will provide excellent non-profit experience in a friendly and dynamic work environment. This is a great opportunity for someone who is social media savvy, interested in non-profit management, and is inspired by the outdoors!
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Assisting with the organization and selection of Volunteer Vacation locations for 2017, design and production of the 2017 printed trip schedule, and website content;
- Assisting with marketing and promoting the Alternative Break program to college student groups;
- Creating content, scheduling, and implementing social media campaigns, posts, and contests using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram;
- Creating, collecting, and researching content for the AHS website and blog;
- Assisting with processing the monthly membership mailings and fulfillment;
- Increasing awareness of the National Trails System and promote outdoor physical activity through various communications.
Qualifications:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Attention to detail;
- The ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work efficiently within time constraints and deadlines;
- A positive attitude and willingness to help with other tasks as needed
- Experience with social media platforms, specifically Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram;
Desired internship term is flexible, but the ideal candidate would be available September 2016 – December 2016. There is a $500 stipend available with this internship, 15-20 hours/week, and is located in our Silver Spring, MD office.
