Alabama DT Davis struck by bullet

Alabama defensive lineman Raekwon Davis apparently was not seriously injured by a gunshot early Sunday morning at a bar in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The 20-year-old Davis was struck by a stray bullet in his right leg and suffered a minor injury, The Tuscaloosa News reported. Police did not immediately identify Davis, but the newspaper confirmed that he was the victim.

The 6-foot-7, 306-pound Davis is expected to be a starter this season at defensive tackle for the top-ranked Crimson Tide. As a freshman last year, he played in seven games and finished with four tackles and a sack.

There was no immediate word from the football program whether Davis will be available to play in the season opener on Saturday against No. 3 Florida State in Atlanta.

The incident occurred at Bar 17, where several shooting have occurred during the past few years, according to the newspaper. Police found shell casings in the parking lot.

Davis was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center. The News said he was not receptive to questioning by authorities.

“The victim told investigators he was standing outside of Bar 17 when he heard several gunshots and realized he had been shot in the right leg,” Homicide Unit commander Capt. Gary Hood told The Tuscaloosa News. “The victim was uncooperative with investigators.”
