Three teams from the Albany area will play for spots in the GHSA softball Elite Eight in second-round playoff series this week.

Lee County, Worth County and Baconton Charter are all hosting second-round playoff series.

Seeking its first Elite Eight trip since 2009, Lee County hosts Greenbrier in a best-of-three series set to begin with a 5 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday.

Last year, Lee County and Greenbrier went to a third game in a first-round series, with Lee County prevailing.

Looking to return to the Elite Eight for the third straight year, Worth County will host Peach County at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the opening doubleheader of their Class 3A series.

A third game in that series, if needed, will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

In Class 1A-public, Baconton Charter hosts Echols County. The Region 1-1A champion Blazers (22-2), who last went to the Elite Eight two years ago, are the No. 3 seed and enjoyed a first-round bye. That series is set to begin with a 4 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday, with Game 3, if needed, set for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Elite Eight takes place Oct. 26-28 in Columbus.
