ALBANY – The Albany Middle School Indians showcased their speed and relentless defense Thursday night, sweeping both games against Deerfield-Windsor in front of a packed house on Albany Middle School’s “Senior Night.” The Indians won the boys’ game 49-32, while the Lady Indians cruised to a 36-12 victory.

In the boys’ game, the Knights started strong, jumping out to a 9-0 lead behind a three-pointer from Maddox Skipper and two baskets by Jordan Jentz. However, Albany Middle Coach Tenorris Knox made key substitutions late in the first quarter, bringing in his usual starting five and implementing a trapping defense that turned the game around.

The Indians trailed 9-7 at the end of the first quarter but stormed ahead to lead 28-17 by halftime and 41-22 after three quarters. Their defensive intensity and quick transitions, combined with three-pointers from Micah Joyner and VJ Chambers, proved too much for the Knights.

Chambers led Albany Middle with 14 points, while Joyner added 12 and Ernest Townsell chipped in 10. Fletcher Wilcox scored nine to lead Deerfield-Windsor, and Skipper contributed six.

The girls’ game followed a similar pattern. The Lady Knights held a 9-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Albany Middle’s full-court press and trapping defense forced numerous turnovers, stalling Deerfield-Windsor’s offense. The Lady Knights failed to score in the second quarter, allowing the Lady Indians to take a 16-9 lead into halftime. Albany Middle extended their advantage to 29-10 by the end of the third quarter.

Zy’Deriaka Harris and Reginae Hill led the Lady Indians with eight points apiece. Cannon Parrish paced the Lady Knights with five points, while Mae Champion added four.
