ALBANY — The Sherwood Christian Eagles lost a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon when their rally fell just short, and New Creation Christian of McDonough took home a 75-72 win at Sherwood Christian in Albany.
The Eagles jumped out to a fast start and led 12-4 early and held on for a 26-18 lead at the end of the first half. The Trojans of New Creation dominated the second quarter, however, outscoring the Eagles 32-10 and taking a 50-36 halftime lead.
Whatever Sherwood Christian coach Keeny Roberts said at halftime worked. The Eagles pulled to within three points, 58-55 when Tripp Roberts drilled a three-pointer seconds before the buzzer to end the quarter.
Senior Alex Harris hit a three-pointer early in the fourth to keep the Eagles close and his shot put him over the 1,500 career point total in high school basketball career. He later tied the game 66-66 with 2:22 left to play and Roberts followed with a basket to give Sherwood a 68-66 lead moments later.
New Creation did not quit, however, and pushed back to take the lead and the win.
Harris finished the day with 30 points to lead the Eagles. Roberts scored 13 and pulled down eight rebounds while Will Moorehead scored nine with eight rebounds.
Sherwood will travel to Warner Robins Tuesday to take on Central Georgia Arts and then host Skipstone Academy at home Friday night to end the regular season.
