Cougars snap Rams’ three-game winning streak

COLUMBUS — The Albany State baseball team saw its three-game winning streak end in its trip to Columbus Wednesday evening. ASU dropped a 10-1 decision to Columbus State.

With the loss, the Rams fell to 4-16 overall, while the Cougars improved to 18-8.

After a scoreless first inning, Albany State fell behind after the bottom of the second that saw Columbus State score five runs. The Rams scored their only run in the top of the third inning. Lawrence Hyde scored off of Chasen Roulhac’s groundout to make the score 5-1.

The Cougars were able to pad their lead with four more runs in the seventh and another one in the eighth.

The Rams collected three hits, two errors and left five runners on base. Tyler Wilcher was the losing pitcher.

Albany State resumes SIAC conference play when it travels to Columbia, S.C. March 25-26 to face Benedict College in a three-game series. Saturday’s doubleheader and the single game on Sunday begin at 1 p.m.
