Albany State drops two in Cougar Classic

COLUMBUS, Ga. | The Golden Rams softball team took part in Day 1 of the CSU Cougar Classic on Friday, hosted by Columbus State University. ASU fell short in both games.

Game 1 vs Embry-Riddle University

The Eagles plated four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, highlighted by a 3-run home run from Michy Ramos that set the tone for a 9-2 defeat of the Golden Rams

Lavette Tucker broke up the shutout in the top of the 4th with a solo home run to left centerfield.

Megan Shepherd went 2-for-2 in the game.

Lauren Lowery (1-5) notched two strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work.

Game 2 vs Columbus State University

In a game that featured a lengthy weather delay, Albany State again fell down early after two wild pitches scored two Cougar runs in the 2nd inning. CSU would add a solo home run from Elizabeth Perdue in the 3rd en route to a 5-1 victory.

Aryn McGowan scored the Golden Rams lone run after Jordynne Baranello earned a bases-loaded walk in the 4th inning.

McGowan (1-5) pitched 6.0 innings and recorded three strikeouts. She also finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

ASU (2-10) will play another two games in the CSU Cougar Classic on Saturday, February 16th. The Golden Rams play Georgia Southwestern State University at 12:30 pm and are scheduled to play Union University at 3:00 pm.
