Rams finish eight strokes behind tournament champion Butler

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — The Albany State men’s golf team finished tied for third at the Bulldog Florida Invitational on Thursday.
The Rams finished the two-day tournament at 604 (303-301), 13 strokes over par. Albany State tied with Detroit.
Butler won the tourney after finishing at 596 (309-287), while Evansville finished second at 602 (301-301).
It was the second time this week the Rams finished third in a Jacksonville, Fla. area tournament. Albany State was third in the two-round Don Benbow Invitational played Monday and Tuesday.
“The good part is that we showed improvement every single day,” Albany State golf coach Gary Hilton said. “We’re getting better. I’m really enjoying this group of guys.”
The Rams were led by Tyler Hanson, who shot a 148 (74-74) and finished in a tie for sixth. His total was just three strokes behind tournament leader Kyle Gaines of Butler who shot a 145 (71-74).
Davis Verner finished in a tie for eighth after finishing with a two-round total of 150 (74-76). Tyler George finished in a tie for 12th-place after finishing at 152 (77-75), while Dominic DiGiacomo (78-76) finished in a tie for 16th.
The Rams are off until March 27-29 when they play in the North Alabama Division II Spring Review in Ford City, Ala.
Albany State will play its final regular season tournament April 2-4 when they will play in the Hurricane Invitational at the Doublegate Country Club. The tournament is hosted by Georgia Southwestern.
