SEA ISLAND, Ga. — Albany State men’s golf coach Gary Hilton was pleased his Rams were seventh out of 18 teams after the first round in the 2017 Coastal Georgia Invite on the Sea Island Retreat Course on Monday.
The final 18 holes of the two-day tournament will be played Tuesday.
It was the first golf match in Albany State’s program history. The Rams finished at 312. Coastal Georgia B leads after finishing at 304.
“There are some of the best four-year colleges around in this tournament,” Hilton said. “To be eight strokes out of the lead after Day 1, that’s definitely something we can build on.”
Tyler Hanson led the Rams with a 76. Dominic DiGiacomo finished at 77, Tyler George shot a 79 and Davis Verner shot an 80. Bradley Blackburn finished at 101.
“We’ve just got to stay focused tomorrow and if we can get up close to the lead, that will be a good opening for our program,” Hilton said.
