Albany State heading to SIAC Tournament

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Albany State men’s and women’s basketball teams, as well as the Golden Rams cheer squad, will be competing in the 2019 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship Tournament next week at Bill Harris Arena at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The women’s team finished in second place in the SIAC East Division and will await the winner of the Miles-Kentucky State matchup. ASU will play the winner on Thursday, February 28th, at 1:00 pm CST.
The Golden Rams defeated Kentucky State in overtime in their only contest of the season, 72-69. Albany State dropped both games with Miles, falling 79-67 in Birmingham in December, and 64-48 in the season finale in Albany.
The men’s team also clinched the number two seed out of the SIAC East and will play the winner of the Lane-Benedict game on Thursday, February 28th, at 3:15 CST.
In their lone meeting this season, Albany State defeated Lane, 68-63. The Golden Rams swept the season series with Benedict, winning at home 82-72, and in South Carolina by a score of 75-67.
The Golden Rams cheer team will compete in the 2019 SIAC Cheer Competition. The event is set for February 24 and will showcase and celebrate all aspects of HBCU Cheer and Dance. The event is free to public and takes place on Sunday, February 24th at 7:00 pm CST at the Birmingham Crossplex.
